My Garden

I used to run a truck farm with 2500 tomato plants and a field full of other vegetables. Now it’s just a forty-by-sixty-foot garden with a high fence against the marauding deer. But I eat out of the garden every month of the year. As late as April I still have sweet potatoes, butternut squash and Jerusulam artichokes from the previous harvest, and by May I’m eating new lettuce, arugula, spinach and radishes.

As a poster at my sister-in-law’s says: Happy are they to whom gardening is a pleasure.
