How true, how true. Refresing, common sense advice!

Following extremes helps no one, especially seniors. The old-fashioned diet our great grandmothers used still works just fine- nonpackaged, unprocessed foods, including real butter and eggs in moderation for good fats, and remembering to "eat your vegetables".

We don't need superdoses of whatever vitamin is popular this month to live a happy, healthy life.

All my evidence is anecdotal as well, I must admit, from writers and caregivers. I have the impression that what really helps is for the patient to have an advocate on the scene. Planning helps, but clearly some luck is involved as well.

I do welcome how much the society is talking about these issues now. When I was young it was nary a word.

Thanks for this review. Have been looking for more information on end of life issues. Interesting that DNR orders don't always mean much. I'd heard that anecdotally, and now you're confirming it.

Wonder if that's true even with a med bracelet on?

Christine--

I wish I had done just that with my father: gone to the cremation place, accompanied his body, brought him home directly. It didn't occur to me that I could have done that. At some point I passed on the responsibility to the funeral directors, and I wish now, after reading your comment, that I hadn't. So much about death has been given over to others, to professionals, which winds up separating us from the truth. Thank you so much for your note, which I think could be helpful to others facing the death of their parents, and deciding how they wish to deal with it.

I hear what you are saying. I just visited my parents grave, they were cremated and i lay on the ground, face down before their stone flat on the ground. I also took care of my father and was a part of every move of the people who came to get my dad. I went a step further, I was at the place where dad was cremated watched him go in and took him home. Love Christine

What sad, sad stories. I'm glad my parents had no money. Our inheritance--the lesson of compassion--is of far more value than gold.

P.S. Congrats on the book sales.

My Mom has Alzheimer's or Vascular Dementia - there is a disagreement among doctors. Her M.D. thought medication would cause more harm. I, at first, believed him and neglected to get help for mom. This was a mistake. The medications -Aricet and Namenda, although far from miraculous, do work. It gives me hope that possibly, when it is my turn, the miraculous medication will be available. In the mean time sitting on a fence when it comes to using medicine in my opinion, based on experience, will result in a precious lose of time.
